Most of the last week has been spent riding through desert and desert camping. The roads have been perfect with a large hardshoulder so the riding has been easy but there have been some long days which are hard to do on a Chinese breakfast which consists of noodle soup, large round white dumplings, and last nights cold stir fry.
One highlight was the first night at a local truck stop. I left after half a day riding when I heard there were beds available. They were well worth $3.00 per bed as it was blowing a gale outside. It only took a few minutes to figure out the main business of the truck stop was a whore house. The girls waited in the restaurant with us with a walkie talkie until they were called for business. Mike got up in the middle of the night to go to the loo and said the cafe was still full at midnight.
Usually we all go to bed when it is dark but tonight Tiffany gave us all a poker lesson which was really good fun. Nights are going to get harder as they get longer.
Mike is so much better, riding well and his infected knee fully recovered. The next part of the tour though will be hard as there is a lot of desert which can be dedious.
Quici is a reasonable town but we are essentially illiterate and finding food was hard last night, we ended up eating bread and fruit in our room, alright except for the fact we have had bread and fruit for breakfast and lunch every day for 2 months. Breakfast today was good though, fresh hot peanut bread with mouthfuls of banana washed down with Pepsi, surrounded by locals looking at us.

Hi Catriona and Mike.
Just been updating on your blog which I havent checked in a while. Glad to hear you are now ok Mike and that you are still 'in'!! Guess you Catriona have kept him going. Well done, I know how tough it can be when you are in any way uncomfortable away from the comforts of home. You are both doing an amazing job and I am sure the kids are really proud of you both....
We are almost in the house at West Wemyss, it is really looking great now. Phil has returned to the US and we now have Gaby and her boyfriend Kosta with us. He got back into Belarus with no hastles when they found out he had been No 2 in the US for tennis a few years ago. He has now been offered a job with Saddlebrook a good club in New York and awaiting visa processes. Fingers crossed. Gaby will persue NBC NY if he gets there. The weather here is still warm and sunny we really have had an Indian Summer. On a different note, was checking BV out today, as I am updating my CV, Francois is back with them!!!! What a fox.... Take good care, our guardian angel will watch over you from now on!!
